Description

Details

The Sasso Rosso is produced with Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, which are cultivated in Tuscany, close to the border with Umbria, between Cortona and Castiglione del Lago, on the rolling hills sloping down towards the Lake Trasimeno. The soil is mainly made of clay, with presence of stones. The climate is continental, with hot summer and cold winter. The lake nearby mitigates the temperature in summer and also in winter, allowing temperature excursion between night and day in August and September. This is the ideal situation to get a perfect grape phenolic maturity. The fermentation on skins for each grape is made separately before blending. The Sangiovese is made in steel tanks while the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are aged for 3 months in French barriques. After blending and bottling, it is aged in the bottle for one more month.
