“Free Solo” is a term used in the extreme sports of climbing without ropes. Without any safety, the climber only has one chance to get it right or risk falling to his death. Similarly, Michael Opitz has only one chance to get the blend right. Nothing can be undone after blending! The “Free Solo” is a blend of Traminer and Muscat Ottonel with 5% of Pinot Gris. Each grape was fermented in barrels before blending. The Muscat has seen some aging Acacia oak while the rest is aged for one year in used French barriques. Some Austrian oak is also used and is made from oak grown alongside the vines of his vineyard.
